The FROG Pup is a small and simple design from FROG which originally was built from sheet balsa. I choose to build it from very thin depron, sliced by using a hot wire. As source for depron I used meat trays and such, Nice colours and it is free!
A drawing can be found at the House of Frog.
The fuselage it strengthened by two formers. The blue tips are simply glued to the white foam, without any extra reinforcement. The cabane strut wasn't stiff enough, so I glued two extra depron struts against it. The landing gear was made from carbon fibre.
The nose block and prop are the only wooden parts. The front is reinforced with thin plywood, as is the noseblock. Against the nose block is a piece of balsa in which a Peck prop bearing is push fitted. The nose block is topped with blue depron.
The prop is cut from balsa and equipped with a Nason clutch as free wheel.
The finished model weighs 5 grams, not bad for a 10" biplane. Most balsa Pups weigh about
twice this weight.
The Pup flies very sedately on a long loop of 1,3 mm rubber (0,050"). The model rises nicely from the ground, which shouldn't be a surprise for a FROG, which stands for: "Flies Right Off the Ground".
